D&A Mentoring

One of the most successful ways of developing and rewarding top employees is to involve them in a mentoring program. A successful and productive mentoring program is a structured and formal process that is taught to both the mentor and the mentoree. It is not just a simple patron or supporter relationship. Mentoring begins by matching mentors and mentorees according to their beliefs, behaviors, and values. The time required of the mentor is less than four hours a month when done correctly and lasts for approximately one year, or less, before the mentoree moves on to another mentor.

BENEFITS OF A GOOD MENTORING PROGRAM:

  • Employee retention
  • Higher productivity
  • Improved morale
  • Executives say they feel less stressed when filling open positions and make better hiring decisions because of more available talent on the inside.
  • The company benefits from the efficiency of reduced time spent in bringing an employee up to speed within the company
  • Helps good employees from falling off the fast track.
  • They have seen quiet, reserved, and non self-promoting employees that normally would not be chosen for the fast track become model top-performing executives due to our unique mentoree selection process.

When an organization allows its employees the freedom to go to someone other than their boss for guidance, problem solving, conflict resolution, and other issues the employees then feel more comfortable, less stressed, and tend to resolve these issues faster. Many times the cause of sticky issues is the boss. Unresolved these issues fester and eventually cause the loss of a good person. A good mentor knows how to coach the employee, knows how to give feedback so that the mentoree does not get defensive. A mentor can also provide intervention.

The interesting twist in this process is that many mentors claim to receive as many benefits from the relationship and learn as much from the mentoree as the mentoree does from the mentor.

Employees selected for mentoring view the process as a company benefit and many executives claim they would not have reached their level of success as quickly without a mentor.
