Mentoring…The Secret To Talent Retention

"Mentoring builds on knowledge and competencies, while bringing out hidden capacities."
-Terri Kabachnick

"Advice does not mean results. If that was the case we’d all be at our ideal weight and physically fit."
-Terri Kabachnick

Here’s a Shocking Reality

Talent is abundant in most companies. And yet most companies do not utilize that talent to help develop the next generation of productive managers and leaders. What a waste of home-grown experienced and competent resources!

This is not based on our opinion but on actual research we’ve conducted within dozens of organizations worldwide. Only 22% have formal mentoring programs. And the reason why most don’t have the mentoring process in place? In a nutshell it’s because the common perception is that executives who could serve as mentors simply have no time.

That perception is so wrong. Most executives we have surveyed want to contribute their learned experiences and shorten the learning curve for up and coming talent. But they need direction and guidance in how to do this. They can’t appear at someone’s cubicle or office and simply state: Hey, would you like me to mentor you?

Have a Higher Standard

"First of all, thanks for a great year!  We were able to reach a new level of performance as a result of your coaching, mentoring and professionalism with a new team of managers.  As a CEO, I am very fortunate to have you as a mentor and friend."
-Bob Shaw, CEO, Net Optics

Our proven and successful Define & Align® Mentoring Process matches the mentor and mentee through careful analysis of their skill sets, behaviors, values, and other factors.

We survey six areas of insight needed for successful mentoring and development:

  1. Natural abilities
  2. Style and communication preferences
  3. Present development - accomplishments
  4. Capacities
  5. Values
  6. Interpersonal skills

Understand Definitions:

Mentor: A mentor is a person who wants to help others advance by willingly sharing his/her knowledge, training, and experiences. Mentors are characterized as: enthusiastic, sensitive, trusted, honest, and experienced. They serve as teachers or guides, providing information, direction, and support which will positively influence a less experienced individual.

Mentee: A mentee is any person who seeks guidance. Persons being mentored must trust and respect their mentor, and must take responsibility for their own career growth and development. A mentee is generally characterized as honest, open, and receptive to the mentor’s guidance.
